13-Year MLB Veteran Joe Beimel Signed by Royals, Joins Omaha

OMAHA - The Kansas City Royals announced Monday that they have signed left-handed reliever and 13-year Major League veteran Joe Beimel to a minor league contract and assigned him to Omaha's roster. He is expected to join the Storm Chasers' active roster for tonight's contest against the Nashville Sounds at Werner Park.

The southpaw has compiled a 29-34 record and 4.06 ERA (307 ER/680.0 IP) over 676 career Major League outings (23 starts) for seven different Big League clubs. He has pitched for the Pittsburgh Pirates (2001-03, 11), Minnesota Twins (2004), Tampa Bay Rays (2005), Los Angeles Dodgers (2006-08), Washington Nationals (2009), Colorado Rockies (2009-10), and Seattle Mariners (2014-15).

He has appeared in Major League Baseball's postseason twice, which included three appearances in the 2008 National League Championship Series with the Dodgers. Beimel was selected by the Pirates in the 18th round of the 1998 MLB Draft out of Duquesne University.

The 39-year-old pitched last year for the Seattle Mariners, tallying a 2-1 mark and 3.99 ERA (21 ER/47.1 IP) in 53 appearances, along with one save. He also made six appearances in the Pacific Coast League with the Tacoma Rainiers in 2015, posting a 1-0 mark and 4.26 ERA (3 ER/6.1 IP), adding eight punchouts.

The Storm Chasers continue their four-game homestand versus the Nashville Sounds on Monday evening at Werner Park. First pitch for the third matchup of the series is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CT. Omaha is expected to give the ball to RHP Dillon Gee (NR) in his first start with the Storm Chasers, while Nashville is slated to send RHP Chris Smith (3-5, 4.24) to the hill.
