DES MOINES - Iowa right-handed pitcher Jake Buchanan has been named Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week for the week of May 30-June 5, the league office announced Monday.

Buchanan threw 13.0 dominant innings last week, going 2-0 in two starts against Albuquerque and Memphis without allowing a run. The righty was tagged for just eight hits and walked none, while issuing nine strikeouts. Buchanan improved to 5-3 on the season and now paces the I-Cubs in wins.

The weekly honor is Buchanan's second of his career and first since May 6, 2013 while with Double-A Corpus Christi of the Texas League.

Buchanan is the first I-Cub to take the home the honor since Eric Jokisch won the award for the week of Aug. 24-30, 2015. It is the second overall weekly honor for an Iowa player this season as Dan Vogelbach was recognized as the Player of the Week on May 15.

In nine starts this season, Buchanan has collected six quality outings and has tossed a season-best seven innings three times.

Buchanan was an eighth round draft pick by Houston in 2010 out of North Carolina State and made his major league debut on June 21, 2014 against Tampa Bay. He signed a minor league deal with the Cubs on April 3 of this season and joined the I-Cubs on April 24.
