Rio Grande Valley Vipers News Release

EDINBURG, Texas - The Rio Grande Valley Vipers announced today that the team has added shooting guard/small forward Gerald Green to the roster.

Green (6-6, 205) un-retires after he announced his retirement in 2021 and joined the Houston Rockets coaching staff as a Player Development Coach.

Prior to his retirement announcement, Green had two stints with the Rockets from 2017-19 where he appeared in a total of 114 games. From 2018-19, Green made 73 appearances for his home team and averaged 9.3 points and 2.5 rebounds. In his first season with the Rockets, Green averaged 12.1 points and 3.2 rebounds.

The Houston native has made a total of 118 starts of 658 games played, 6,412 points, 1,639 rebounds, 596 assists, 199 blocks and 335 steals in his 12-year NBA career. Green's tenure features stints with eight different teams: the Boston Celtics, Phoenix Suns, Miami Heat, Indiana Pacers, Dallas Mavericks, New Jersey Nets and Minnesota Timberwolves.

Green was drafted 18th overall by the Celtics in the 2005 NBA Draft, making him one of the last players to enter the NBA directly from high school before the collective bargaining agreement that changed the draft eligibility.

In 2007, Green won the NBA Slam Dunk Contest, while finishing as the runner-up in 2008.

The Vipers will tip-off the regular season tonight against the Texas Legends at 7:30 p.m. CT at Comerica Center.
