WAUSAU - Woodchuck pitcher Jack Fischer of Wake Forest today was named the 2012 Northwoods League Pitcher of the Year, and Nate Irving and Eric Filia-Snyder were named to the Post-Season All-Star team.
Fischer, who was also named both a first half and post-season All-Star, recorded a 6-1 record with an ERA of 1.76. In 56.1 innings, Fischer struck out 61 batters while only walking 14 and allowing 40 hits. In his last three starts, Fischer is 2-0 with an 0.47 ERA and 20 strikeouts. Fischer is currently scheduled to make his next start for the Woodchucks during their playoff series against the La Crosse Loggers, which will begin on Monday at 6:35 at Athletic Park.
Irving, a catcher from the University of Virginia, was a leader for the Woodchucks in their dominant month of July both offensively and defensively. On the season, Irving hit .252 in 38 games with four doubles, one triple, and 11 RBI's. In the month of July, Irving was second on the team with a .352 batting average. He recorded five extra base hits in the month and six RBI's. Irving at one point had caught 14 consecutive games for the Woodchucks before suffering a high ankle sprain after a collision at home plate. Defensively, Irving led the league in runners caught stealing with 22, ahead of Chris Hoo of Green Bay who caught 19 runners.
Filia-Snyder was an offensive and defensive force for the Woodchucks after arriving with the team in late June. Filia-Snyder currently leads the Woodchucks in batting average (.382), walk-to-strikeout ratio (26:13), stolen bases (24), on-base percentage (.497), slugging percentage (.551) and OPS (1.049). He has committed zero errors in the outfield while recording eight outfield assists, only two behind the league leader, Davis Hendrickson of Waterloo.
The "ËChucks will play at Athletic Park both of the next two nights. Sunday, the "ËChucks will take on the Madison Mallards for their final regular season game and fan appreciation night at 5:05 at Athletic Park. The playoffs will begin Monday, also at Athletic Park, where the Woodchucks will host the La Crosse Loggers in the first game of a best-of-three series at 6:35.
