Yard Goats Shutout SeaWolves 6-0 on Friday in Erie

Erie, PA- The Hartford Yard Goats (65-51) shutout the Erie SeaWolves (48-70) by the score of 6-0 on Friday evening in the first of a three game weekend series at Jerry Uht Park in Erie, Pennsylvania. Yard Goats starting pitcher Alex Balog hurled seven scoreless innings and 1B Ryan McMahon had two hits, including a triple and drove in three runs as Harford won its second straight game. Outfielder Omar Carrizales had a productive night in the leadoff spot and had two hits, a walk and scored three runs. The Yard Goats turned three double plays behind Balog who improved to 5-0 on the season.
The Yard Goats scored the first run of the game in the first inning off Erie starter Josh Turley. Omar Carrizeles began the game with a bunt single, moved to second base on Noel Cuevas' sacrifice bunt and took third on Ryan McMahon's infield hit. Ashley Graeter followed with a two out RBI single to right field, scoring Carrizales and giving Hartford a 1-0 lead.
The Yard Goats added a pair of runs in the third inning on a triple by Ryan McMahon. Omar Carrizales started the rally with a leadoff walk and advanced to second base on Kody Eaves fielding error on a grounder hit by Noel Cuevas. Both Carrizales and Cuevas pulled off the double steal putting runners at second and third base. Ryan McMahon then cracked a triple down the right field line scoring Carrizales and Cuevas and making it 3-0 Harford.
SeaWolves starter Josh Turley would then settle down and retire the next 13 batters including the side in order from the fourth through the seventh innings. However, in the eighth inning the Yard Goats would score three runs off him and chase him from the game.
The Yard Goats scored three runs in the eighth inning to lead 6-0. Wilson Soriano, Omar Carrizales and Noel Cuevas each had singles to load the bases. After Rosell Herrera lined hard to shortstop for the first out, Ryan McMahon walked and Soriano scored making it a 4-0 game. Manager Lance Parrish brought in reliever Angel Nesbitt to face Ashley Graeter. He would hit a sacrifice fly and scored Carrizales to put Hartford in front 5-0. Next Correlle Prime joined the part and ripped a two out single to right field, scoring Cuevas and making it 3-0.
Hartford starter Alex Balog pitched seven scoreless innings and Matt Pierpont and Tyler Matzek worked the eighth and ninth in the win.
The Yard Goats continue the three game series against the Erie Sea Wolves on Saturday night (7:05 PM) at Jerry Uht Park in Erie, PA. RHP Zach Jemiola will start for the Yard Goats. The game will be broadcast live on News Radio 1410 WPOP.
