Hartford Yard Goats News Release

Erie, PA - The Erie SeaWolves defeated the Hartford Yard Goats by the score of 6-1 on Wednesday night at UPMC Park in Erie, Pennsylvania. SeaWolves starter Kyle Funkhouser dominated on the mound and allowed just three baserunners in seven innings of work to record his first win of the season. DH Dominic Ficociello broke a 1-1 tie with a three-run home run in the third inning as Erie defeated Hartford for the second straight night. Funkhouser retired 21 of 24 batters faced allowing only a solo home run, bunt single and a walk, while recording nine strikeouts. Yard Goats third baseman Nelson Molina provided Hartford with its only run, on a solo home run in the third inning, his first of the season.

The SeaWolves scored the first run of the game in the second inning against Hartford starter LHP Evan Grills on a sacrifice fly by Jake Rodgers. The Erie catcher is the Tigers #5 prospect after being acquired by the Tigers in the Justin Verlander trade with the Astros last year.

The Yard Goats tied the game with a run in the third inning on a solo home run by Nelson Molina off SeaWolves starter Kyle Funkhouser. The Erie right-hander retired the first eight batters before Molina came up with two outs in the third. The Hartford third baseman then blasted a line drive down the right field line and over the fence to tie the game at 1-1. It was his first homer of the season.

However, the SeaWolves broke the 1-1 tie in the third inning. The frame began with Jacob Robson's leadoff single. Grills then walked Will Maddox putting runners at first and second base. Dominic Ficociello followed with three run home run over the wall in right center field, his fifth of the season, giving Erie a 4-1 lead. The SeaWolves added another run in the fifth on an RBI single by Josh Lester and a sixth run scored on Troy Montgomery's sac fly in the sixth.

The Yard Goats wrap up the three-game series against the SeaWolves and try to avoid a sweep on Thursday night at 7:05 at UPMC Park. RHP Ryan Castallani will start for the Yard Goats and RHP Beau Burrows will pitch for Erie. The game will be broadcast on AM 1410 WPOP and streamed on newsradio.1410.com and MiLB.com. The Yard Goats will return to Dunkin' Donuts Park for their next homestand next Tuesday vs Erie at 7:05 PM.
