Harrisburg Senators News Release

The Richmond Flying Squirrels knocked off the Harrisburg Senators 4-3 Saturday night at FNB Field. The Senators tied a season-high by hitting three home runs in the loss.

In the bottom of the first, Alec Keller lined a solo home run to right as the Senators took an early 1-0 lead.

Logan Darnell did not allow a hit to the first 13 batters, before Aramis Garcia hit a solo home run to left with two outs in the fourth to tie the game. The next two batters, Jerry Sands and Jonah Arenado, hit back-to-back doubles to give Richmond the lead.

The Senators came back in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead on another pair of solo home runs. Carter Kieboom led off the frame by blasting a 2-0 pitch from Flying Squirrels starter Shaun Anderson into the left field stands. One batter later, Taylor Gushue crushed 1-0 delivery from Anderson into the Senators bullpen beyond the right field fence to make it 3-2 Senators.

Richmond tied the game in the fifth when CJ Hinojosa doubled in Ali Castillo.

The game remained square at 3-3 until the ninth when Richmond took the lead. Matt Lipka singled with one out and advanced to second on a groundout by Caleb Gindl. The next batter, Castillo, singled into center field to plate Lipka and put the Squirrels ahead 4-3.

Squirrels reliever Patrick Ruotolo pitched a scoreless ninth to notch his third save and secure the 4-3 victory.

Neither starter factored in the decision. Senators starter Logan Darnell allowed three runs on five hits across six innings while striking out two and walking two in a quality start. The six innings were a personal season-high for Darnell.

"I thought (Darnell) had three really good innings but then he kind of got beat with his off speed," Senators manager Matt LeCroy said. "He battled and kept the game tied for us."

Richmond starter Shaun Anderson worked seven innings of three run ball.

Dillon McNamara (3-2) earned the win by throwing a scoreless eighth inning. Roman Mendez (4-3) took the loss after surrendering the go-ahead run on three hits in two innings of relief.

Seven of the eight Senators batters finished with at least one hit with Davidson the only player to have multiple hits as he finished 2-4.

"I thought we swung the bats better than the line indicated in (the previous series) at Altoona and that's carried over to this series," LeCroy said. "We have to keep fighting and battling, which our guys are doing, and I think things will turn."

The Senators and Flying Squirrels play game three of the series Sunday evening. The Senators send starter Jaron Long to the mound opposite Richmond starter Taylor Hill. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at FNB Field. The game can be heard on CBS Sports Harrisburg 96.5 & 95.3 FM and 1400 AM or at www.cbssportsharrisburg.com beginning at 5:45 p.m.
