Pigs Capture First-Ever North Division Title
August 26, 2018 - International League (IL1)
Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
The Pigs cemented history the best way they knew how.
Tied with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders in the bottom of the ninth inning, J.P. Crawford drilled a walk-off single to right field to give Lehigh Valley a 2-1 victory and its first IL North Division title in the 11-year history of the team. It was the 11th walk-off win of the season for the Pigs
Out of the gate, both sides were led by dominant pitching. Erik Swanson tossed six frames while allowing only three hits to keep the Pigs off of the board. Meanwhile, Jerad Eickhoff, making a Good Shepherd rehab start, matched the six innings and kept the RailRiders from scoring.
Scranton broke through in the seventh by drawing a couple of walks off Mark Leiter Jr. and scoring a run on a wild pitch. The Pigs responded almost instantly in the bottom of the frame, thanks to a solo home run off the bat of Danny Ortiz.
After two quick outs in the ninth inning, Zach Green and Logan Moore each singled while Dean Anna was intentionally walked to load the bases to set the table for Crawford's heroics.
The 2018 IronPigs playoffs presented by Provident Bank will begin with two road games at the IL wild card team on Sept. 5-6.
