ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The Bats scored two runs in the eighth inning to win last night's contest by a 4-2 margin, giving the Indians four losses in their last five games and 11 in 15 overall. Hernan Iribarren, the 2016 IL batting champion, plated Blake Trahan from third with a fielder's choice up the middle in the decisive frame, and C.J. McElroy added an RBI single for insurance. Kevin Quackenbush struck out the side in the ninth for his 24th save. Damien Magnifico made a spot start for the Tribe and allowed two runs in 2.0 innings pitched. His counterpart Tyler Mahle surrendered two runs in 7.0 innings of work, one of those coming in the third inning on an Eric Wood solo homer, his second blast of the series. Jose Osuna knotted the game at 2-2 with a sacrifice fly in the sixth. Buddy Boshers suffered the loss and Alex McRae tossed 4.0 scoreless frames with four strikeouts to keep Indy within striking distance.
NOT MUCH HAS CHANGED: Despite losing consecutive games in Louisville, Indy and Columbus are still tied for first place in the IL West with nine games to play. The Clippers lost 3-2 on Friday and 5-1 last night in Toledo, who are now just 1.5 games back in third place in the division. The Indians haven't been tied for first in the division this late in the season since Sept. 7, 2015. Columbus went into those Governors' Cup Playoffs as IL West champions while Indy was the wild card representative.
SEASON SERIES HISTORY: The Tribe took the season series over Louisville last year by winning 15 of the 23 matchups, including a 7-4 mark at Louisville Slugger Field. The Indians have not won the season series over the Bats in consecutive years since a three-year stretch from 1998-2000. Indy went 11-5, 9-7 and 13-3 vs. the Bats in those three years. The Indians and Bats are currently tied 7-7 in the season series with six head-to-head matchups remaining.
RIGHT GUY AT THE PLATE: Jose Osuna is batting .415 (32-for-84) with five homers, nine doubles and 50 RBI with RISP this season. He has also walked 12 times and struck out just 10 times in those situations for the Tribe this year. The last Indians player to total 25-plus plate appearances with RISP and post an average at or above .400 was Gregory Polanco in 2014, when he hit .432 (32-for-74) with 43 RBI. Matt Hague nearly accomplished the feat that season, as well, batting .396 (38-for-96) with 53 RBI.
BY THE NUMBERS - 30/10/50/50: Kevin Kramer has 32 doubles, 13 home runs, 54 RBI and 68 runs scored this season. He is the first Tribe player to reach the 30+ 2B, 10+ HR, 50+ RBI and 50+ runs club in a season since Jared Goedert in 2013 (32 2B, 11 HR, 62 RBI, 57 R).
