August 26, 2018 - International League (IL1)
Louisville Bats News Release
TODAY'S GAME: The Louisville Bats and Indianapolis Indians travel to Victory Field for the second leg of their 4-game split series. The Bats won the first 2 games of the series at Louisville Slugger Field on Friday and Saturday, now the winners of 3 straight. Tonight, right-hander Lucas Sims takes the mound for Louisville as they try to win 4 straight games for the first time since July 31 - August 3.
AGAINST INDIANAPOLIS: Before the current matchup, the Bats and Indians last faced off in a four-game split series from July 2-5, with each club winning a pair of games. Eight of the final 11 matchups of the season for the Bats come against Indianapolis, with 4 at each ballpark. In 14 matchups so far this season, the clubs are knotted at 7 games apiece after Louisville has won each of the last 3. Indianapolis has outscored Louisville this season by a 51-45 advantage.
ANOTHER RESILIENT WIN: Louisville won 4-2 on Saturday night, in the third-till-last home game of the season. Unlike the previous 2 wins, LOU did not win in come-from-behind fashion, but did give up a 2-0 lead, with the Indians tying it 2-2 in the sixth inning, before the Bats' offense came up clutch in the bottom of the eighth to take a 4-2 lead, which was the final score. The victory gives Louisville its first 3-game win streak since the beginning of August.
OVER .500 AT LSF: Louisville improved to 92-91 all-time against Indianapolis at Louisville Slugger Field. Coming into the season, LOU owned an 87-88 record at home all-time against the top farm club of the Pittsburgh Pirates, and have gone 5-3 to move beyond the .500 mark in the all-time series matchup at LSF.
YOU SHALL PASS: After winning 3 consecutive ballgames, the Bats currently own a 57-71 record, surpassing their win total from 2017 when they finished with a 56-86 record, 23.0 games back of the International League West division lead.
HIS BOY MCELROY: Louisville center fielder C.J. McElroy went 3-for-4 with an RBI and 2 stolen bases in Saturday's 4-2 win. It was the first multi-steal game for a Bats player since Josh VanMeter stole 2 bags on August 4 at Columbus. McElroy's first 3-hit game for Louisville was his first game with 3+ hits since May 16 this season with Class AA Pensacola, when he went 4-for-5 at Biloxi.
SCORCHING HOT: Josh VanMeter went 1-for-4 with a double and RBI last night, extending his hitting streak to 6 games. Since that stretch, he is batting .500 (12-for-24) with 5 doubles, one triple, 2 home runs and 9 RBI since August 19. His 12 hits and 8 extra-base hits are both most in the International League in that time frame. VanMeter has raised his Louisville batting average from .224 to .246 in that span.
FINAL ROAD DAY GAME: Today marks the Bats' final road game of the 2018 season and their next-to-last road game overall (9/3 vs. IND, 1:00). The Bats own a 10-13 (.435) record during the day this season, as opposed to 47-58 (.448) at night.
NO CORRELATION: In 6 of the Bats' last 9 games and 7 of their last 11, the team that records more hits in the game ended up losing. Last night was an exception to the recent trend, with the Bats out-hitting the Indians 8-6, and also winning by a 4-2 score.
