August 26, 2018 - International League (IL1)
Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
Lehigh Valley cruised to a 5-3 victory on Sunday over Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to take a lead in the four-game series two games to one. The win sets up a winner-take-all game for the 2018 IronRail Series with the series finale tomorrow.
Cole Irvin etched his name in the record books by tossing six innings and allowing only a single run. Irvin's winning performance was the 13th win of the season for the left-hander, the most in a single season in franchise history.
The offense was slow to back Cole, but eventually broke through in the fourth inning with three runs, including RBI knocks from Aaron Altherr and Zach Green.
Matt McBride padded the lead in the seventh inning with his 10th home run of the year, a solo shot to left field. McBride is the sixth Pig to smash at least 10 home runs this season, the most in a single year in franchise history. Not wanting to miss out, Dylan Cozens went yard as well in the eighth inning to push the game out of reach.
Tossing a scoreless ninth, Pedro Beato notched his 33rd save of the season, matching the single-season record he set just a year ago.
The Pigs will play their final home bame of the regular season tomorrow night as they try to win the IronRail Series. Drew Anderson will get the start for Lehigh Valley with first pitch coming at 7:05 p.m.
