Elmira Jackals News Release

(Amarillo, TX) - Five third period goals allowed the Odessa Jackalopes to pull away from the Amarillo Gorillas for an 8-1 win on Friday night at the Amarillo Civic Center. Sebastien Thinel recorded four assists to give him 60 on the season, setting a new franchise record, and extend his point streak to a team-high 10 games.

Odessa's third period outburst came from Kory Karlander, Brian Swiniarski, Jeff Pierce, and Collin Circelli, who scored a pair of goals.

Juha Toivonen made 38 saves to pick up his 19th win of the season. Odessa's record improved to 38-9-4 on the year.

Karlander began the game's scoring with the lone goal of the first period, on the power play, at 18:10 for his 16th of the season.

In the second frame, Odessa opened up a 3-1 lead thanks to goals from Phil Plante and Troy Ofukany. Plante's was a shorthanded tally at 9:04 on a 2-on-1 with Karlander. Ofukany then scored his sixth of the season at 18:11 after deflecting a shot from the point. Stuart MacRae also scored in the period for Amarillo's only goal of the game.

Sebastien Thinel has 28 points (four goals, 24 assists) during his 10-game point streak. Thinel's 60 assists this year breaks his own franchise record of 59, which he set last season against Amarillo. Ofukany's goal was his first since being traded to Odessa on January 5th. Friday's game was the third time this season the Jackalopes scored at least eight goals against Amarillo - all three games were in the Amarillo Civic Center.

The Odessa Jackalopes are the Central Hockey League affiliate for the NHL's New York Islanders and the AHL's Bridgeport Sound Tigers. The team is in the middle of their 13th season in the Permian Basin. Season tickets, mini-plans, and single game tickets are available by calling (432) 552-PUCK or visiting jackalopes.org.
