Fresno Grizzlies News Release

Fresno, Calif. - First-inning home runs by Juan Perez and Chris Dominguez provided all the scoring for the Fresno Grizzlies on Thursday as they beat the New Orleans Zephyrs 4-0 at Chukchansi Park. Starting pitcher Chris Heston led a trio of Grizzlies pitchers in Fresno's first shutout of the season.

Perez made quick work of getting the Grizzlies on the scoreboard as he sent the second pitch he saw over the left field bleachers to lead off the game for Fresno. After Gary Brown walked and Francisco Peguero singled, Dominguez hit a three-run homer to cap the game's offensive output.

The homer for Dominguez was his fifth in his last seven games. He now has seven on the year, which is the second-most among all Grizzlies hitters. The roundtripper also gave the Grizzlies a homer in seven straight games.

At one point, Heston retired 12 in a row before the streak was snapped by a two-out single in the sixth inning. The right-hander scattered three hits and four walks over seven innings in his fifth win of the year.

The Grizzlies faced some heat in the eighth inning. Ramon Ramirez relieved Heston to start the frame, and after he struck out Gorkys Hernandez, he walked three straight to load the bases. Sandy Rosario stepped in and not only got the Grizzlies out of the bases loaded jam in the eighth but threw a scoreless ninth inning to notch his second save of the season. Rosario, who pitched in the Miami Marlins organization in 2012, registered 16 saves for the Zephyrs last season.

New Orleans Brad Hand suffered the loss after allowing four runs over five innings. The left-hander struck out seven and walked three.

Perez had a game-high three hits for Fresno. He added a double in the seventh inning and a single in the second to go along with his sixth homer of the year. It was Perez's second consecutive three-hit game.

Brown went 1-for-2 with two walks. Williams also had two walks for Fresno.

The Grizzlies' win also extends a streak of seven straight series opener victories for Fresno over the Zephyrs.

The second game of the four-game series against New Orleans is on Friday at 7:05 pm. Right-hander Shane Loux of Fresno will face former Grizzlies right-hander Doug Mathis.
