
Tucson defeats Iowa

The Tucson Padres battled back from a two-run deficit to defeat the Iowa Cubs 9-8 Friday at Principal Park.
The Padres jumped ahead 4-0 in the first inning on Daniel Robertson's RBI double, Gregorio Petit's RBI groundout and Jesus Merchan's two-run single with the bases-loaded. The Cubs got two run backs in the second inning to cut the Padres lead to 4-2. Josh Vitters put Iowa within one of Tucson in the third with an RBI single to right. Logan Watkins knotted the score up at 4-4 in the bottom of the fourth with solo home run over the right field wall. Three batters after Watkins' home run, Dave Sappelt put Iowa ahead with an RBI double. The Cubs added another run in the fifth to go ahead, 6-4.
The Padres came up with three runs in the sixth including an RBI single from Brandon Allen to retake the lead, 7-6. Tucson scored two more in the eighth on Petit's RBI single and Rene Rivera's sacrifice fly. Petit finished the game with three RBIs, while Anna compiled four hits and three runs.
The Padres bullpen allowed just two runs in 4.1 innings with Nick Vincent picking up his second win of the season. Miles Mikolas pitched the final 1.1 innings for his sixth save. Padres starting pitcher Robbie Erlin went 4.2 innings allowing 12 hits, four earned runs,, while striking out four and not walking a batter. Reliever Esmailin Caridad was charged with the loss for Iowa after surrendering four hits and three runs.
