Reno Aces News Release
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.-RHP Charles Brewer cruised through his first five innings, and the Reno Aces pushed across five runs in the ninth inning, en route to an 8-3 victory over the Albuquerque Isotopes Thursday night at Isotopes Park.
Brewer did not allow a run and surrendered only two hits through his first 5.0 innings, before hitting a rough patch in the sixth. A two-RBI double off the bat of Alex Castellanos put Albuquerque on the board, and an RBI single by former Aces infielder Rusty Ryal tied the game at three.
The teams remained tangled until the Aces big ninth inning. The first three Reno batters at the plate reached base, off a walk, single and an error. Tyler Kuhn's sacrifice fly made the difference, giving the Aces a 4-3 lead, but Reno did not stop there. Catcher Tuffy Gosewisch extended Reno's record to 7-3 with a three run homer, his fourth of the season.
At the dish for Reno, Gosewisch, Alfredo Marte and Chris Owings collected two hits each. Gosewisch drove in three runs, tying his high-water mark for the season.
Brewer, who gave up three earned runs on six hits through 5.2 innings while striking out seven, did not factor into the decision. Four Aces relievers combined to throw 3.1 shutout innings, giving up five hits, to finish the game. Reliever Joe Paterson was credited with his second win of the season.
Albuquerque starter Blake Johnson dealt a quality start, but did not factor into the decision. Reliever Steven Ames gave up five runs in the ninth, and was charged with the loss for the Isotopes.
The series continues on Friday night at Isotopes Park. LHP Tyler Skaggs (2-5, 6.21 ERA) will get the nod for Reno, while the Isotopes will counter with at yet to be announced starter. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m. PT in Albuquerque.
Reno returns home on May 24 for a Memorial Day Weekend series against the Tacoma Rainiers. Tickets are on sale for the upcoming series, and all Aces home games, at RenoAces.com, by calling (775) 334-7000 or by visiting the Aces Ballpark Ticket Office.
