
Zephyrs Drop First Game of West Coast Trip

FRESNO, California - The Fresno Grizzlies jumped on the Zephyrs in the first inning hitting a pair of home runs and scored four runs off of starter Brad Hand. Fresno went on to defeat the Zephyrs 4-0 in front of 5,962 fans at Chukchansi Park.
Juan Perez led off the first with a solo home run. Gary Brown reached on a walk and Francisco Peguero singled. Chris Dominguez ripped a three run home run to cap the scoring in the first inning.
Hand settled in after allowing four runs, he pitched five innings allowed six hits and struck-out seven batters in the defeat.
Chris Heston pitched seven shut-out innings allowed three hits and four strikeouts and earned his fifth win of the season. The Z's offense had an opportunity in the eighth inning when Ramon Ramirez walked three consecutive hitters. Sandy Rosario entered and induced a pop up and a strike out to get out of the jam. Rosario picked up the save.
The Zephyrs offense managed to leave 11 men on base and went one for nine hitting with runners on base. The Zephyrs were shutout for a league leading sixth time this season.
Game Notes -The Zephyrs made several roster moves since its last game on Tuesday. The Z's added pitchers Rett Varner and James Leverton from Class AA Jacksonville. The Zephyrs also added infielder Ryan Goetz from Class A Jupiter. The Z's placed Kevin Mattison, Scott Maine and Jake Jefferies on the disabled list.
