Altoona Curve News Release

MANCHESTER, N.H. - After a close game through five innings, the Altoona Curve were routed by the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, 12-2, on Friday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.

The Curve (68-56) were held to just three hits in the game and held the Fisher Cats (60-65) to three hits through the first five innings, but New Hampshire scored 11 runs on 14 hits from the sixth through the eighth innings to put the Curve away.

The Curve took a 1-0 lead in the second inning after Eric Wood doubled and came in to score on a sacrifice fly by Jonathan Schwind.

The Fisher Cats tied the score in the bottom of the second on a solo home run by Ryan Lavarnway off of Curve starter Brandon Waddell (Loss, 7-8).

The score remained knotted at 1-1 until the bottom of the fifth when Rowdy Tellez plated the go-ahead run on a groundout and Lavarnway singled to extend the advantage to 3-1.

New Hampshire added three more runs in the seventh and six in the eighth, combining for 14 hits in the two frames.

Altoona put a run on the board in the ninth inning thanks to a hit batter and four walks in the frame by Alonzo Gonzalez, including a bases-loaded free pass to Edwin Espinal.

Wood finished the night going 2-for-3 with two doubles and a run scored. Barrett Barnes had the only other Altoona hit of the night.

The Curve and Fisher Cats continue the series on Saturday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. Right-hander John Kuchno (1-1, 3.94) will take the mound for Altoona, opposed by New Hampshire right-hander Willmer Font (3-0, 1.96). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
