Akron RubberDucks News Release
Akron's Shao-Ching Chiang tossed 5.2 shutout innings, and Connor Marabell homered during a five-run second inning, as the RubberDucks closed out the homestand with a 5-2 win over the Binghamton Rumble Ponies Wednesday night at Canal Park in Akron, Ohio.
Turning Point
The RubberDucks (14-11) rallied early in the game against Ponies starter Marcos Molina (0-2), Mark Mathias doubled to lead off the inning. Marabell followed with a long homer to right, his second of the season. After a couple of singles and hit-batter, Tyler Krieger snuck a broken-bat single into left to drive in two more runs. Joe Sever capped the inning with an RBI groundout to make it 5-0 in Akron's favor.
Mound Presence
Chiang (2-0) gave a sensational and gutsy effort. He scattered four hits and allowed no runs in his 5.2 innings. He struck out a season-high eight batters and walked none. He was struck on the right leg by a line drive off the bat of Binghamton's John Mora on the final out of the 5thinning, but still came back and worked to three batters in the sixth before reaching his pitch limit. Argenis Angulo (2.1 IP) added scoreless relief help. Henry Marinez came in to quell a Ponies rally in the ninth and recorded the final three outs after the Ponies rallied for two runs against Nick Pasquale. It was Martinez's second save.
Duck Tales
Krieger's hit extended his hitting streak to 10 games, the longest on the squad this year. Marabell finished 2-4, and raised his average to .313. Ka'ai Tom chipped in three hits, going 3-4 with a run scored. Joe Sever was 2-4, with a double, and finished 7-13 in the three-game set against the Ponies.
