Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
AKRON, OH - Backed by a five-run second inning, Akron starter Shao-Ching Chiang blanked Binghamton over five strong innings to send the RubberDucks to a 5-2 win over the Rumble Ponies on Wednesday night at Canal Park. Binghamton was limited to six hits in the rubber game defeat.
Connor Marabell set the tone against Binghamton starter Marcos Molina in the pivotal inning by blasting a two-run homer to center field. The RubberDucks loaded the bases with two singles and a hit batter before Tyler Krieger poked a two-run single to left field. Joe Sever capped the frame with a run-producing groundout.
Akron starter Shao-Ching Chiang (2-0) kept the Ponies in check into the sixth inning. He struck out a season-high eight and never faced more than four batters in any inning. The righty scattered four hits over 5-2/3 innings to collect the win.
Binghamton pushed their only runs across in the ninth against Akron reliever Nick Pasquale. With two aboard, Tyler Moore smoked a two-run double into the left-field alley. Henry Martinez took over and registered the final three outs to claim his second save.
Molina (0-2) battled into the seventh inning, but could not undo the damage from the second inning. The Rumble Ponies righty was charged with five runs on nine hits over 6-1/3 innings.
The Rumble Ponies (12-11) return home to open a four-game series against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on Thursday night at 6:35 PM. RHP Mickey Jannis takes the mound against RHP Jon Harris. The Horizons Federal Credit Union pregame show starts at 6:20 PM and can be heard on NewsRadio 1290 WNBF and the Binghamton Rumble Ponies channel on TuneIn.
