Lake County Captains News Release

(Comstock Park, MI) -The Lake County Captains offense continued its slow start to the second half of the Midwest League season on Tuesday afternoon. The Captains out hit the West Michigan Whitecaps, 9-6, but were shutout in the run column as they fell 3-0. Whitecaps' starter Ross Seaton pitched into the eighth inning for the second straight time against the Captains as West Michigan completed the two game sweep.

The Captains would get the first hit of the game and the first runner into scoring position when Anthony Santander doubled with two outs in the top of the first inning. It was Santander's third straight double going back to his final two at bats on Monday night. Santander would be left on base.

Captains' starter Sean Brady and Seaton would both cruise through the first four inning of the game without any real scoring threats. However, the Whitecaps would get to Brady in the fifth inning.

With one out in the fifth, Zach Shepherd drew a walk. Franklin Navarro would follow with a double to put runners at second and third. Brady would then get a strikeout of Francisco Contreras for the second out of the inning. However, Derek Hill would triple to rightfield to clear the bases and put the Whitecaps up 2-0. Rashad Brown would follow with an infield base hit to score Hill for the final run of the game and a 3-0 lead.

The Captains would threaten in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings but were unable to get a run.

In the ninth inning with two outs, Taylor Murphy singled to extend the game. Dorssys Paulino would follow with his second hit of the game to bring the tying run to the plate. However, a pop out to the shortstop David Gonzalez would end the game.

Brady (5-6) took the loss in 5.0 innings of work. He allowed 3 runs, all earned, on 4 hits. He walked 1 and struck out 5. David Speer would then go 2.0 perfect innings in relief while striking out 1.
