
Power slips past Greensboro

(Greensboro, NC)- The West Virginia Power edged the Greensboro Grasshoppers 6-4 Saturday night at NewBridge Bank Park. The Power scored three in the first and held of the Grasshoppers in the end for the win.
West Virginia jumped out to an early lead, scoring three runs in the first inning off Greensboro starter Chad James. With one down, Dilson Herrea and D.J. Crumlich each singled. Eric Wood followed with a single to right, bring Herrera home for a 1-0 advantage. James left with an injury after just four batters and the Power added two more runs for a 3-0 lead.
The Power added two runs in the two and manufactured a run in the third without a base hit and held a 6-3 lead after three innings for spot starter Pat Ludwig. The right-hander pitched five complete innings, allowing three runs on five hits with four strikeouts and two walks.
Greensboro scored once sixth inning against reliever Tom Harlan and threatened in the ninth against Jason Creasy, but could not manage any further run support. The Grasshoppers loaded the bases in the ninth, Creasy struck out the final two batters to end the game.
Ludwig (5-0) earned the win in his longest appearance as a professional. Harlan tossed three innings for his second hold of season before Creasy pitched the scoreless ninth for his third save. James (0-1) took the loss in his first appearance of 2013, allowing the first three runs and only recording one out.
Crumlich and Walker Gourley had two hits each to key the Power, which won for the second straight day. Max Moroff drove in a pair to help the offensive effort.
West Virginia and Greensboro conclude this series and their respective first halves on Sunday at 4:00 pm. Joely Rodriguez will make the start for the Power and will be opposed by Mason Hope. The South Atlantic League All-Star breakbegins on June 17 with the mid-summer classic to be play on June 18 at Lakewood's FirstEnergy Park.
