Lakeshore Chinooks News Release
The Lakeshore Chinooks come home to Kapco Park after a weekend away. The Chinooks took an early 2-0 lead in the 3rd inning but the Mallards scored two in the 5th and the go-ahead run in the 8th to secure a 3-2 lead. Down to the Chinooks last three outs of the game, Forrest Chadwick (S. Maine) tied the game up in the bottom of the 9th leading to another extra inning game. After trading runs in the tenth, the Mallards locked up the victory in the 11th inning.
The bottom of the 3rd inning started off with a lead-off walk by Cody Bobbit (Wichita State) and Chris Manning (Valparasio) reaching on error, Sawyer Polen (Kent State) then advanced the runners to second and third bringing up Brant Valach (Eastern Illinois). Valach ripped a 2-RBI double to the left field corner giving the Chinooks a 2-0 lead after three innings of play.
The Mallards bounced back in the top of the 5th inning. With two outs in the inning and a man on first, Reuverkamp of the Mallards flared what looked to just another single but took a hop for the worse resulting in the first run for Madison. The following batter hit blooper knotting up the game 2-2 after the top of the 5th.
The top of the 8th brought trouble to the Chinooks when lead-off batter reached on a single. After one out, the Mallards hit a shot to right field but was bobbled resulting in Madison to take a 3-2 lead. With two men on, the Chinooks settled down striking out the last two batters of the inning.
The Chinooks were down to their final three outs in the bottom of the 9th inning when Forrest Chadwick launched a solo home run to tie the game 3-3. After a walk and a sacrifice bunt, the Chinooks were looking to end the game with a base hit to knock the man in from second but just like that, he was picked off ultimately ending the inning.
The Mallards reclaimed the lead on a blast over the Chinooks left fielder for an RBI double taking a 4-3 lead.
The Chinooks were down to their final out when Manning walked and stole second to put himself in position for Polen who hit a deep shot to left-center knocking in Manning giving him an RBI double.
There was no sign of slowing down as the Mallards hit a lead-off double and knocked in another go-ahead run. Lakeshore once again waited with two outs in the bottom of the 11th having runners on the corners but could not knock in a run ending the game falling 5-4.
Alex Young (TCU) started his first game of the season for the Chinooks going 5 innings, with 3 strike outs, and giving up 5 hits and 2 runs (1 earned).
