WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Right-hander Chris Beck and outfielder Courtney Hawkins were named the Carolina League's Pitcher of the Week and Player of the Week, respectively, thanks to their efforts from June 3-9, the league office announced Monday afternoon. This is the first time this season that a Dash player has won either of the Carolina League's weekly honors.

Beck, who was named to the Carolina League All-Star Team last Friday, celebrated his selection with the first nine-inning complete game shutout on the circuit this season. Beck blanked the Wilmington Blue Rocks on just five hits while tying a career-high with seven strikeouts in a 5-0 Dash win on Friday night at BB&T Ballpark.

Only Beck and Matt Heidenreich have tossed a nine-inning complete game shutout in the Dash era, which began prior to the 2009 season. Heidenreich's gem was a four-hitter against Salem on June 25, 2012. Beck, who has won four consecutive starts, boasts the fifth best earned run average on the circuit at 2.79. This is the Jefferson, Ga., native's first Pitcher of the Week award in his minor league career.

Hawkins, the top prospect in the White Sox minor league system according to Baseball America, set himself apart from the rest of the league's hitters thanks to a .345 average (10-for-29) with four homers and 11 RBIs. Eight of his ten hits went for extra bases, and the former first-round pick hit safely in six of his eight games this week.

The Corpus Christi, Texas, native's breakout game was a two-homer, five-RBI performance at Salem on Tuesday. It was Hawkins' second multi-homer effort of the season, and he set a new career high for RBIs in a single game. This is also Hawkins' first Player of the Week award during his professional career.

Beck and Hawkins propelled the Dash to a 5-3 week, during which the Dash drew even with Myrtle Beach atop the Southern Division standings with one week remaining in the first half. Winston-Salem won both regular season division crowns last season en route to an appearance in the Mills Cup Championship Series.
