Grizzlies Fall to Beach Bums in Series Finale; 6,217 Attend

Sauget, Ill. - The Traverse City Beach Bums beat the Gateway Grizzlies 8-4 Sunday afternoon at GCS Ballpark. The game was seen by 6,217. It was the 17th largest crowd in Gateway's franchise history, and the fifth biggest in the last four years.

Traverse City (8-7) jumped out to an early two run lead. Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the fifth Gateway (9-5) designated hitter Michael Pair hit a one-out solo home run to cut the lead to 2-1. The next batter was Grizzlie second baseman Jonathan Johnson. He hit a home run of his own to tie the game 2-2.

Gateway hit four homers Sunday. All four were solo shots. Jet Butler hit one in the sixth and Antone DeJesus hit one in the bottom of the ninth. Johnson and DeJesus both ended the day with three hits.

Gateway committed three errors Sunday. Two of them were in the top of the sixth. The Beach Bums took advantage scoring three runs during the frame which pushed their lead to 5-3. Gateway would not lead again.

The loss went to Grizzlie ace Tim Brown (2-2). He went six innings, gave up nine hits, eight runs, five earned runs, walked two and struck out five. Traverse City starter Jacob Clem (2-2) got the win. Clem pitched seven, gave up nine hits, three runs, struck out three, and didn't walk any.

The Grizzlies enjoy two off days before resuming play Wednesday with a doubleheader in Florence, KY against the Freedom. First pitch in game one is schedule for 4:45 CST. Right-hander Chris Enourato (1-1) will make the start for the Grizzlies.
