Round Rock Express News Release

ROUND ROCK, Texas - Tied at three apiece entering the bottom of the ninth, the Round Rock Express (13-11) used a walk-off single from first baseman Chris McGuiness for a 4-3 victory over the Albuquerque Isotopes (12-11) on Sunday afternoon.

For the first time in 2013, the Express needed its final at-bat to pull out at win as the E-Train salvaged a split with the Isotopes, winning the series finale before hitting the road for a four-game trip.

Shortstop Jurickson Profar entered today's game with just two extra-base hits over his last nine games (35 at-bats) but wasted little time adding to that number with a RBI triple in the first to give the E-Train a 1-0 lead.

The second inning started rough for the Round Rock defense as right fielder Jim Adduci lost a ball in the sun off the bat of designated hitter Tim Federowicz that fell into shallow right for a hit. Two batters later the "˜Topes took advantage of the small opening in a big way when third baseman Brian Barden took Mills' 0-1 offering over the left-center wall for a two-run blast to put Albuquerque ahead 2-1.

The hot-hitting Joey Butler sparked a rally in the bottom of the fourth with his leadoff double, hitting safely for the 11th time out of his last 13 games. Two batters later, designated hitter Aaron Cunningham moved Butler to third on an "excuse me" swing that lined a ball into right for a hit. Second baseman Yangervis Solarte brought the run home on a sacrifice fly to center, tying the game at two apiece.

Albuquerque retook the lead a half inning later as the back-and-forth affair continued. The "˜Topes recorded three singles from the first four batters in the top of the fifth, including a one-out RBI single off the bat of catcher Jesus Flores to plate right fielder Rusty Ryal for the third Isotope run.

Butler added his second double of the day in the bottom of the sixth, putting himself in scoring position with one out. Chirinos delivered with a RBI single through the left side to tie the game at three and advanced to second on the throw to the plate. Albuquerque reliever Anthony Ortega settled down and stranded Chirinos at second, retiring the next two batters in order to end the inning.

Chirinos found himself in the middle of the action again as the Express and Isotopes entered the ninth in a 3-3 draw. The third baseman worked a walk to begin the inning and advanced to scoring position on a sacrifice bunt by Cunningham. With Solarte at the plate, Albuquerque reliever Geison Aguasviva uncorked a wild pitch that moved Chirinos to third. The "˜Topes eventually walked Solarte to put runners on the corners with one out for McGuiness. The first baseman bounced a ball through the right side that sent the fans home happy as the Express walked off, mobbing McGuiness in celebration of their 13th win.

E-Train reliever Johan Yan earned the victory, his first of the season after 2.0 scoreless innings in relief of starter Brad Mills. Mills turned in his third quality start of the year, scattering five hits and three runs over 7.0 solid innings of work. Aguasviva suffered the loss after allowing one run over 1.1 innings out of the Albuquerque bullpen. "˜Topes starter Matt Palmer exited after 4.0 innings, allowing two runs on five hits in his first start of 2013.

Round Rock will now hit the road and travel to Iowa for a four-game set with the I-Cubs before returning to Dell Diamond on Friday, May 3 to start a four-game series with the Nashville Sounds. The Express will play at 6:35 p.m. tomorrow in Des Moines, sending right-hander Randy Wells (0-4, 5.14 ERA) to the mound. The I-Cubs will counter with Nick Struck (0-2, 4.80 ERA).
