Brampton Steelheads News Release
Mississauga, ON - The Steelheads scored a season high eight goals 24 hours ago in St. Catharines before returning to the Hershey Centre. Brampton's Matej Machovsky recorded 35 saves to secure his 21st win of the season, allowing a lone goal in a 2-1 Battalion win.
A turnover in the defensive zone lead to one of two Brampton chances in the first period and the opening goal. 2012 Draft 1st round selection Michael Clarke scored his 19th goal of the season from the bottom of the circle after Tyson Teichmann stopped the first two shots. Riley Brace's 20th goal of the season restored the balance, redirecting a Dylan Smoskowitz shot from the slot at 18:02 of the period.
Kristoff Kontos in close and Spenser Cobbold hitting the post were the Steelheads best opportunities in the second period. Brampton forced a turnover late in the frame before Matt MacLeod found Clarke for his second goal of the night, with 17 seconds in the period.
Kontos midway through the third period alone in front of Machovsky, and Josh Burnside coming around from the side of the goal had Mississauga's best chances to equalize in the third period. The Steelheads are now 4-24-0-1 when trailing after 40 minutes and 12-9-0-2 when outshooting their opposition.
The Steelheads host OHL scoring leader Nick Cousins and the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Great seats are still available by calling (905) 502 - 7788, visiting the Hershey Centre Box Office, or logging on to Ticketmaster.
