Chicago Wolves News Release

ROSEMONT, Ill.---The Chicago Wolves used two goals from left wing Brett Sterling to earn their fourth straight victory 4-1 over the Texas Stars Wednesday night at the Allstate Arena.

Goaltender Matt Climie went more than 58 minutes without allowing a goal to run his shutout streak to a franchise-record 173 minutes and 57 seconds. His streak surpassed Kari Lehtonen's 170-minute, 54-second run set in 2004.

Forwards Stefan Schneider and Michael Davies added insurance goals for the Wolves (18-12-3-2), who wore their commemorative Military Appreciation jerseys for the first of three consecutive games.

"Sometimes you need to rely on your veterans to step up and carry the team," said Wolves head coach Scott Arniel. "Matty played outstanding tonight and Sterling did what he does and that is score goals."

Chicago opened scoring when Sterling stripped a Stars defensemen at the side of the net and backhanded a shot through the legs of Texas goaltender Jack Campbell at 6:11 of the second period. Darren Haydar earned his fifth assist in the last four games on the play.

Sterling's second of the night came 3:05 into the third period when he was sprung in the Stars zone on a one-on-one break and he snapped a quick wrister from the far dot over Campbell's blocker. With that marker, Sterling moved into second place on the Wolves all-time goal register with 158 markers. Defenseman John Negrin picked up his first Wolves assist.

Schneider increased the Wolves lead to 3-0 when he stick-handled through the slot and flipped a shot under the cross bar and past Campbell at 12:32. Forward Trent Daavettila posted the assist in his Wolves debut.

Campbell (6-5-2) kicked out 25 shots for the Stars.

Texas (22-12-3-2) ended Climie's (10-11-1) bid for his second straight shutout when left wing Matt Fraser collected a puck that bounced off a Wolves defender and tucked it over the goal line.

Davies bagged an empty-net tally at 19:18 of the third period to close out scoring.

The Wolves and Stars will battle in a rematch at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 18, at the Allstate Arena. For tickets, call 1-800-THE-WOLVES or visit ChicagoWolves.com.
