Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Bowling Green, KY - Parker Markel earned his sixth straight quality start and his tenth win on Tuesday night at Bowling Green Ballpark, leading the Bowling Green Hot Rods (34-23, 72-55) to a 3-1 win over the South Bend Silver Hawks (29-27, 64-62) in the series finale. Cameron Seitzer and Matt Rice both contributed with early RBI-singles as the Hot Rods broke their four-game home losing streak to South Bend. Austin Hubbard also claimed his 20th save, tying the single-season franchise record.
Needing a fast start to erase some of the misfortune of the previous three nights, the Hot Rods got just that on Tuesday. The team brought eight men to the plate in the bottom of the first, scoring twice to take a 2-0 lead against Silver Hawk starter Tyler Green. Both Seitzer and Rice lined singles up the middle with two outs to get the scoring started. However with the bases loaded, the Hot Rods just missed a big inning when Juniel Querecuto lined out to third base.
Bowling Green did not score again until the bottom of the eighth inning, but it did not matter. Starter Parker Markel was his usual July/August self, allowing just one run on seven hits in 6.1 innings. The righty remains unbeaten since June 28 and is 5-0 with a 1.18 ERA in his last six starts, which are all quality starts.
The two best scoring opportunities for South Bend occurred in the seventh and eighth innings, bringing the tying and go-ahead runs to the bases with less than two outs. Bowling Green relievers Shay Crawford, who was making his Bowling Green Ballpark debut, and Austin Hubbard entered into dicey situations but did not allow a single run to cross home. Hubbard picked up the final five outs of the game to record his 20th save of the season and now needs just one more save to break the single-season franchise record.
Bowling Green Ballpark and the Hot Rods will welcome the Dayton Dragons to town on Wednesday night at 6:35 PM for the first of a three-game series. The Hot Rods will send LHP Justin Woodall (3-4, 4.28) to the mound to make the spot start, while the Dragons will counter with RHP Robert Stephenson (2-1, 2.74).
Tune in to the game on the flagship station for the Hot Rods Radio Network, 1340 WBGN-AM The Ticket and online at BGHotRods.com. The Forever Communications Pregame Show with Hank Fuerst begins at 6:15 PM.
The Hot Rods are hosting a College Fair presented by WKU at Bowling Green Ballpark during Wednesday night's series-opening contest.
