TinCaps Lose Third Straight

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Fort Wayne TinCaps lost, 6-3, to the Dayton Dragons on Tuesday night at Parkview Field, dropping three out of four to the last place team in the Eastern Division. Fort Wayne was outscored 22-10 over the course of the series.

Dayton (25-30, 55-70) scored four runs over the first three innings against Fort Wayne (32-25, 63-64) starter Colin Rea (5-8). Rea was knocked out of the ballgame after 2 2/3 innings, allowing four runs, three earned, while walking one and striking out two.

Fort Wayne cut into the Dayton lead in the sixth inning. Mike Gallic reached on a fielder's choice, and moved to second on a single by Whitmore. Dragons reliever Wes Mugarian (3-3) then gave up a double to Lee Orr, scoring Gallic, and moving Whitmore to third. Mugarian threw a wild pitch to Austin Hedges, allowing Whitmore to score. Orr came around third base on the wild pitch, and was thrown out at the plate by Dayton first baseman Nick O'Shea.

The Dragons answered back in the top of the seventh. Sammy Diaz led off with a single and moved to second base when Joe Terry walked. Both runners scored on a double by Sean Buckley, making it 6-2.

With one out in the bottom of the ninth, Fort Wayne's Austin Hedges singled. He moved to second on a wild pitch, and scored on a single by Kyle Gaedele. Travis Jankowski followed with a single to bring the tying run to the plate, but Tyler Stubblefield popped out to end the game.

The TinCaps start a seven game road trip Wednesday night against the West Michigan Whitecaps at Fifth Third Ballpark. Ruben Mejia is scheduled to start for Fort Wayne with Marcelo Carreno getting the call for West Michigan. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00.
