CLINTON - Iowa. - The Clinton LumberKings crushed the Kernels 10-3 on Monday night at Ashford University Field. The Clinton offense twice brought 9 batters to the plate in an inning. Clinton's Dan Paolini had 5 runs batted in. Dan Paolini got the LumberKings rolling right away in the bottom of the 1st inning. Paolini crushed his 12th homer of the season to deep left center, putting Clinton up 2-0.
Clinton didn't stop there as they scored 4 runs in the 2nd inning, taking a 6-0 advantage. Paolini knocked in 2 more runs in the 2nd inning. This time, it was a 2-RBI double down the left field line. A RBI single by Ji-Man Choi plated a run while Paolini later scored on a wild pitch. A total of 9 batters came to the plate in the inning.
The Kernels cut the lead in half in the 4th inning, trimming Clinton's lead to 6-3. Eric Stamets roped a double to left center and scored on Zach Borenstein's RBI single up the middle. Borenstein later scored on Frazier Hall's infield RBI single. Gary Mitchell smashed a double high off the wall to center to send Hall to 3rd base, and Hall would score on Abel Baker's RBI groundout.
Clinton got those runs back in the 5th inning as they scored 4 runs to take a 10-3 lead. Clinton sent 9 hitters to the plate for the 2nd time in the ballgame. The LumberKings scored the runs on 6 hits with RBI hits coming from Mike Dowd, Patrick Brady, and Dan Paolini. Paolini's RBI came via a single, giving him 5 runs batted in on the evening.
Cam Bedrosian (3-11) started for the Kernels and went 1 full inning. He faced 4 hitters in the 2nd inning. All in all, Bedrosian allowed 6 runs on 5 hits while walking 3 LumberKings. Mike Johnson came on in relief and went 3.1 innings, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits while striking out 2 and walking 1. Stephen Tromblee added 1.2 innings and allowed 2 runs on 6 hits while striking out 4 and walking 0. Brandon Lodge pitched 2 scoreless innings, allowing 0 hits while striking out 4 and walking 1.
Jordan Pries (3-0) started for Clinton and went 5 innings, allowing 3 runs on 6 hits. He struck out 3 and walked 0. Jeremy Dobbs went 2 innings in relief, allowing 0 runs on 2 hits while striking out 2 and walking 1. Josh Corrales pitched the final 2 innings, allowing 0 runs on 0 hits while striking out 3 and walking 1.
