Hawks Miss Sweep, Take Series

South Bend Silver Hawks News Release


The South Bend Silver Hawks (64-62, 29-27) dropped the final game of a four-game series with the Bowling Green Hot Rods 3-1 in front of 2,974 fans at Bowling Green Ballpark. With Lake County's win against Lansing, the Silver Hawks enter a four-game series with the Captains two games out in the wild card race. The Silver Hawks took three of four from the Hot Rods.

Parker Markel (10-5) earned the win for Bowling Green, allowing just one earned run on seven hits over 6.1 innings. Tyler Green (4-7) was stung with the loss, allowing two unearned runs on four hits over six innings. Green tallied his highest strikeout total since registering the same number against Kane County on July 13.

Right-hander Austin Hubbard recorded the final five outs for Bowling Green and notched his team-leading 20th save of the season.

Matt Helm and Raul Navarro each went 2-for-4 for the Silver Hawks.

The Silver Hawks scored their lone run of the game in the fourth inning when Tom Belza scored from second on a throwing error from Parker Markel. Bowling Green took the early lead with two runs in the first inning on two-out RBI singles from Cameron Seitzer and Matt Rice.

The Silver Hawks left 10 runners on base in the game including the bases loaded in the seventh inning.

Right-hander Frank Santana worked two innings out of the Silver Hawks bullpen and allowed one unearned run on a hit over two innings.

The Silver Hawks begin a four-game series with the Lake County Captains Wednesday at Classic Park. Left-hander Keith Hessler (2-2, 2.49) starts for South Bend and he will be opposed by right-hander Mason Radeke (6-6, 3.52).
