El Paso Diablos News Release
EL PASO, TX- The Diablos could not deliver new manager Tim Johnson a victory in his first game at the helm in El Paso, as the visiting Grand Prairie Air Hogs racked up 19 hits en route to convincing 17-3 victory in front of 4,416 at Cohen Stadium.
Starter Colin Allen (0-3) suffered his worst outing of the 2012 season, giving up 13 hits and nine runs over five and a third innings before giving way to a bullpen that could not stymie a potent Grand Prairie attack. The Air Hogs had five different innings in which they scored at least three runs after scoring one run in the top of the first.
Seven different Air Hogs drove in runs for Grand Prairie who improved to 11-9 on the season. The visitors were paced by Chris McMurray and Mike Brownstein, who each knocked in three runs and reached base a combined seven times.
Trent Lockwood added a two-run home run off reliever Geivy Garcia, his team leading fourth of the season.
On offense, the Diablos could not take advantage of three newcomers in the lineup against Grand Prairie starter Josh Strawn, who threw his first complete game of the year. Strawn allowed runs in just one frame, a three-run fifth for El Paso, throwing 112 pitches and striking out four to earn his second victory.
New additions Derrick Pyles (one) and Jordan Marks (two) drove in all three of El Paso's runs out of the number eight and nine slots in Tim Johnson's order. New acquisition Enrique Cruz went 1-4 in his first game in a Diablos uniform.
With the four-game series tied after two contests, the Diablos will try and get back in the win column behind Osvaldo Rodriguez at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday night.
