Sioux City Explorers News Release

Lincoln, NE-----Richard Salazar (2-3) pitched eight strong innings as the Explorers defeated Lincoln 6-2 here Friday in the first game of a three-game series. It was Salazar's longest outing of the year as he picked up his second win of the season. Behind the pitching of the southpaw Salazar, the Explorers turned three double plays, the most they have turned in a game this season and the X's did not commit an error. The Explorers took advantage of a first inning error by Lincoln to take a 1-0 lead, but Lincoln came back in the bottom of the first to tie the game at 1-1. In the fourth inning, Sioux City took the lead for good as an infield out by Brandon Newton scored Wally Backman, Jr. from third base. Backman started the inning with a single. The Explorers scored two runs in the fifth inning to increase their lead to 4-1 when Ryan Priddy doubled with two outs to score two runs. Sioux City would add an insurance run in the eighth and their final tally in the ninth. In the ninth Michael Lang singled with two out and later scored from first baseball on a single to left field by Kris Sanches. Lincoln would score their final run in the bottom of the ninth with two outs. For the third time this season, the Explorers have won two straight and will be looking for their third straight win Saturday in the second game of the series at Lincoln. Game time will be 7:05.
