Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Midland, MI - Ryan Brett and Drew Vettleson hit back-to-back home runs in the third inning to lead the Bowling Green Hot Rods (25-22) to a 12-3 win over the Great Lakes Loons (24-23) on Thursday night at Dow Diamond. The win evens the three-game series at one game apiece and also places the Hot Rods back in sole possession of second place in the Midwest League's Eastern Division. Cameron Seitzer, Joel Caminero, and Alejandro Segovia also contributed by each driving in a pair.
Bowling Green began their stellar night offensively, striking for two runs in the first inning on Thursday. With runners at first and second and one out, Cameron Seitzer doubled to deep right-centerfield that scored one run. Then, with the bases loaded two batters later, Joel Caminero lined a single through the middle to give the Hot Rods a 2-0 lead.
The very next frame, the Hot Rods plated four more runs, all with two outs. Drew Vettleson and Jeff Malm both singled with two down to get the rally started. Then, Seitzer delivered another RBI with his single to left field that scored Vettleson. Alejandro Segovia came to the plate and drove in two runs with his double off of the wall in left field. Caminero then added another RBI-single, his second in as many innings. At the end of an inning and a half, the Hot Rods held a 6-0 advantage over the Loons.
The Hot Rods used the longball to their advantage in the third inning to add three more runs onto their lead. With one out and a runner at second base, Ryan Brett lifted a hanging curveball over the wall in straightaway left field for a two-run shot, his third homer of the season. The very next batter was Vettleson, who homered to deep left-centerfield to give the Hot Rods back-to-back home runs and a 9-0 lead.
The nine runs were plenty for Hot Rods starter Felipe Rivero to work with as the 20-year-old Venezuelan lasted the necessary five innings to grab his fourth win of the season. Rivero allowed two runs on five hits in his five frames. Trevor Shull took over from there, hurling the final four frames to grab his first save of the season and his first save as a professional.
Midland, MI's Dow Diamond will host the rubber match on Friday night at 6:05 PM CDT. The Hot Rods will send RHP Parker Markel (1-1, 4.91) to the mound, while the Loons will counter with RHP Ryan O'Sullivan (3-3, 3.11). Tune in to the game on WBGN-AM 1340 "The Ticket" and online at 1340wbgn.com. Join Hank Fuerst for the Forever Communications Pregame Show at 5:45 PM CDT.
