
Kernels Fall to Beloit, 9-2

BELOIT, Wis. - The Kernels led early, but the Snappers scored nine unanswered runs to down the Kernels 9-2 in a gusty wind at Pohlman Field on Thursday.
Things looked good early as the Kernels scored twice in the top of the 1st inning to take a 2-0 lead. Kevin Moesquit led off the game with a base on balls and later scored on a wild pitch from Snappers starter A.J. Achter. Kaleb Cowart doubled and then scored on Frazier Hall's RBI sacrifice fly to left field, giving the Kernels the early two run advantage.
However, Beloit immediately took the lead right back and kept that lead the rest of the day. The Snappers erased the Kernels lead and took their own two-run lead with four runs in the bottom of the 1st inning. Adam Bryant's 2-RBI single scored Wang-Wei Lin and JD Williams, tying the game 2-2. Miguel Sano stole home on a double steal attempt, giving the Snappers a 3-2 lead. Kyle Knudson's RBI single plated Bryant to extend the Snappers lead to 4-2.
Cam Bedrosian (0-4) went 0.2 inning for the Kernels and allowed four runs on two hits. He struck out one and walked three.
Beloit's Eddie Rosario's 2-run home run in the 2nd inning gave the Snappers a 6-2 advantage. Drew Leachman's solo home run in the 5th inning extended the Snappers lead to 7-2. The Snappers added two more in the 8th inning with Leachman's 2-RBI double, scoring Miguel Sano and Adam Bryant.
Frank De Jiulio pitched 2.1 innings in relief for the Kernels and allowed four runs on two hits while striking out four and walking one. Joe Melioris pitched four innings and allowed one run on four this while striking out five and walking one. Logan Odom allowed two runs on two hits in one inning while walking one.
A.J. Achter (1-1) picked up the win for the Snappers in a spot start. He went five innings and allowed two runs on two hits while striking out five and walking one. Tyler Jones pitched three scoreless innings while David Hurlbut added one scoreless frame in relief.
The Kernels look to win the series at Beloit on Friday night at 6:30 p.m. The team returns home on Saturday evening at 7:05 p.m. vs. Quad Cities.
