GENEVA, Ill. - Lane Adams homered as part of a three-run fifth inning while the Kane County Cougars clung to a 5-4 victory over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Sunday afternoon at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark.

Justin Trapp started the fifth against Drew Gagnon (3-1) with a double and scored on a base hit by Jorge Bonifacio to break a 2-2 tie. Bonifacio was at first when Adams stood in and belted his second home run of the season to put the Cougars (19-18) in front by three.

Edwin Carl (3-2) started for the Cougars and preserved the advantage through six innings as he scattered seven hits while fanning three. Jonathan Dooley replaced Carl and allowed a run in the seventh as Chadwin Stang doubled home John Dishon. In the eighth, Jason Rogers doubled and scored on a sac fly by Greg Hopkins to pull Wisconsin (23-14) within one.

With runners on the corners and two outs in the eighth, Nick Graffeo (S, 8) entered and punched out Rafael Neda. Graffeo worked around a leadoff two-bagger by Dishon in the ninth inning to help the Cougars hang on.
