Peoria, IL - A day after fellow starter PJ Francescon turned in his best start of the season, Jose Rosario did the same as the Peoria Chiefs defeated the Burlington Bees 5-3 Sunday afternoon at Peoria Chiefs Stadium. The win, their third in a row, puts Peoria at 16-21 on the year, as they head into game three of the four game series Monday night at 6:30.

Rafael Lopez followed a one out walk by Wes Darvill with a single through the right side of the infield to put runners on the corners for Paul Hoilman in the bottom of the third. A day after watching his franchise record hit streak of 24 games come to an end, the first baseman laced an RBI single to left scoring Darvill and giving Peoria a 1-0 lead.

The Chiefs added to their slim lead in the top of the seventh. With new pitcher Chas Mye on the mound, Darvill and Lopez worked back-to-back one out walks. An out later, and with the runners going on a 3-2 pitch, Ryan Cuneo flared a single to left scoring Darvill and extending the lead to 2-0. In his first game of the season with Peoria, Anthony Giansanti followed with a RBI single of his own giving the Chiefs a 3-0 lead.

Burlington finally got on the board in the top of the eighth. B.A. Vollmuth and Dusty Robinson singled to start the inning, and a passed ball put both runners in scoring position. Dusty Landaeta skied a sac fly to right allowing Vullmuth to trot home cutting the lead to 3-1.

The Chiefs wasted no time getting the run back in the bottom of the eighth. Yaniel Cabezas led off the inning with a walk and moved into scoring position after a wild pitch. Marco Hernandez singled putting runners on the corners. With Zeke DeVoss batting, Hernadez stole second and after DeVoss grounded out, Darvill walked to load the bases. Lopez lifted a sac fly to center scoring Cabezas and extending the lead to 5-1. Hoilman followed with a grounder that shortstop Sean Jamieson couldn't handle as it skipped into left field scoring Hernandez and giving Peoria a 5-1 lead.

The Bees made it interesting in the ninth, jumping on new pitcher Charles Thomas. With one out, Aaron Shipman doubled and Jamieson followed with a single putting runners on the corners. With two outs, Jamieson advanced to second on a defense indifference before Vollmuth drove a 0-2 pitch into center scoring both and cutting the lead to 5-3. After a walk and a passed ball put two runners in scoring position, Thomas walked Landaeta to load the bases. Jeff Lorick replaced Thomas and struck out Wade Kirkland to preserve the victory.

Rosario (3-3) went six strong innings, allowing no runs on three hits, walking three and striking out seven. Luis Liria came in for Rosario to start the seventh, going two innings, allowing one run on two hits, striking out three. Thomas came in a non-save situation in the ninth, going 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on three hits, walking two and striking out two. Lorick replaced Thomas in the ninth, striking out the final batter of the ballgame and recording his fifth save of the season.

Casey's General Store Player of the Game - Jose Rosario (SP) - The right hander turned in his best start of the season Sunday on his way to his third win of the year. Rosario went six innings allowing just three hits, three walks, and striking out a career-high seven in a scoreless effort.
