PEORIA, Illinois (5/13/12) - Sean Murphy gave the Bees (17-19) another great start, but it wasn't enough to keep the Bees from dropping game two to the Peoria Chiefs (15-21). The Bees put forth a good effort late in the game, but lost 5-to-3 on Mother's Day.

Murphy only had two strikeouts in his last start, but pitched well enough to earn his second win of the season. On Sunday afternoon, Murphy had his strikeout pitch working early and had three strikeouts in the first inning. The tall right-hander didn't have much trouble throughout his outing. He tossed a total of six innings and repeatedly took advantage of a wide strike zone to lefties at the plate.

Unfortunately Murphy gave up a one-out walk to the Chiefs' third baseman Wes Darvill, and after a couple of singles, the Chiefs had a run on the board. The scored stay at 1-to-0 until the bottom of the seventh when Chas Mye took over. Murphy (3-3) pitched six innings and gave up four hits, one earned run and three walks. He also struck out five batters, but took the loss.

Chas Mye struggled with his command in the bottom of the seventh and fell behind in the count several times in the inning. After walking two batters with only one out, the lefty gave up a couple singles the let the Chiefs extend the lead to 3-to-0 heading into the eighth.

Just like game one, the Bees scored their first run in the eighth inning after B.A.Vollmuth and Dusty Robinson led off with a couple of singles. Vollmuth eventually scored on a sacrifice fly from Douglas Landaeta, but Wade Kirkland and John Nester followed with two strikeouts to end the inning.

Drew Tyson gave up a couple of runs in the bottom of the eighth to give the Chiefs a 5-to-1 lead heading into the bottom of the ninth. Aaron Shipman hit a one-out double to rightfield in the top of the ninth and reached third when Sean Jamieson hit a single to center. With two outs in the top of the ninth, B.A. Vollmuth lined a base hit into centerfield with two strikes on him. The Bees loaded the bases for Wade Kirkland, but the comeback stopped in Kirkland's at bat when Kirkland finished the game by watching strike three creep over the plate.

The Bees play game three tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. For information on the Bees schedule, call (319) 754-5705 or visit www.gobees.com.
