Great Lakes Loons News Release
EASTLAKE, OH - Jarrud Sabourin snapped a 3-all tie with a two-run home run in the sixth inning, leading the Lake County Captains to a 5-4 win over the Great Lakes Loons. The Loons have now lost three straight.
Sabourin's blast came off Loons reliever Raydel Sanchez (0-1) and came on the first pitch after a mound visit from acting manager Razor Shines.
Lake County scored first in the game in the bottom of the second inning off Loons starter Jose Dominguez. Leonardo Castillo singled home Jordan Smith, who singled to begin the inning.
Scott Schebler tied the score with a solo home run in the fourth, his second shot of the season.
The Captains took the lead with a pair of runs in the fourth. The second run of the inning crossed the plate when Bryson Miles scored just ahead of a throw from Dominguez on a comebacker by Sabourin. That call at home plate by Ronnie Teague prompted the ejection of Loons manager John Shoemaker.
The Loons tied the game again in the sixth against reliever Manuel Carmona (1-0). Jesse Bosnik doubled past Sabourin into right field scoring O'Koyea Dickson. Bosnik later scored on a passed ball by catcher Alex Monsalve.
But Sabourin's blast put Lake County ahead for good. The Loons got to within one run when Kevin Taylor drove the first pitch of the ninth over the left field fence for his first homer of the year.
Dominguez failed to make it out of the fourth inning for the second straight start. He was charged with three runs, all earned. Sanchez took the loss with 2 1/3 innings of relief, allowing two runs. Jason West and Mike Thomas each worked scoreless innings.
Elvis Araujo started for the Captains and worked just four innings, allowing one run. Carmona allowed two runs (one earned) but was credited with the win. Rob Nixon threw 2 1/3 scoreless relief innings, and Jeff Johnson recorded the save despite surrendering Taylor's homer.
The Loons (20-17) and Captains (17-19) meet for the third game of a four-game series Monday evening at 6:30pm ET at Classic Park. Right-hander Ryan O'Sullivan (2-2, 2.52 ERA) is slated to start for the Loons against Lake County righty Joe Colon (3-3, 3.32). The game will be broadcast live on ESPN 100.9-FM and ESPN1009.com.
The Great Lakes Loons are a sixth-year Single-A partner of the Los Angeles Dodgers and are in the middle of their 5th Anniversary Celebration, which kicked off in August 2011 and will continue throughout the 2012 season. For more information about the Loons, visit Loons.com or call 989-837-BALL.
