Johnny Giavotella to Kansas City

Papillion, Neb. - Second baseman Johnny Giavotella will be called up from Triple-A Omaha and join the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday, the club announced today.

Through 31 games, Giavotella was batting a blistering .331 with 28 runs scored, eight doubles, five home runs and 25 RBI. Through eight games in May, he was hitting.483 with two home runs and knocked in 10.

This is Giavotella's second call-up to the big leagues. Giavotella spent 46 games with Kansas City in 2011 and batted .247 with two homers and 21 RBI.

Giavotella was drafted in the second round of the 2008 Draft and was named to the Topps Triple-A All-Star and Pacific Coast League All-Star Squads in 2011 in addition to being awarded with the George Brett Hitter of the Year award, which is given to the top hitter in the Royals' farm system.
