Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
The Albuquerque Isotopes (19-13) overcame a 3-1 deficit by scoring three runs in the fourth inning to earn an 8-3 victory over the Nashville Sounds (9-21) Monday afternoon at Isotopes Park. The win gives the 'Topes a series victory over the Sounds and a one and a half game lead in first place in the PCL American Southern Division.
Trailing 3-1 in the fourth inning, Josh Fields, Scott Van Slyke and Jeff Baisley drew three consecutive walks to load the bases with no outs. The Isotopes then got back-to-back sacrifice flies from Jerry Sands and Tim Federowicz bringing in Fields and Van Slyke to knot the score 3-3. 'Topes shortstop Luis Cruz followed with an RBI double down the left-field line, scoring Baisley and giving Albuquerque a 4-3 lead.
The Isotopes pounded out three more runs in the sixth beginning with a fielder's choice from Sands, who advanced to second on a one-out single from Federowicz. With two runners on, Cruz mashed a homer over the left field wall, collecting three of his four RBI on the day and extending the 'Topes' lead 7-3.
Albuquerque added on a final insurance run in the seventh inning when Trent Oeltjen sprinted home on a sac-fly to center from Sands, making the score 8-3 Isotopes.
'Topes relief pitching took over from there as Shane Lindsay tossed a scoreless eighth and Scott Rice struck out two batters and retired a third in the ninth, sealing the Isotopes' 8-3 win.
Starting pitcher Mike Parisi only lasted through the first two innings before leaving the game with right arm tightness. Relief pitcher Cole St. Clair (1-0) picked up the slack, allowing only one run on four hits through four frames of work.
Elian Herrera jumpstarted the 'Topes offense with a leadoff double in the first inning to extend his hitting streak to a team-high 13 games. The utility fielder collected a second double and scored a run in the contest.
Albuquerque will hit the road to begin a four-game set in Tacoma with the first game slated for 8:05 PM on Tuesday. 'Topes undefeated right-hander Will Savage (5-0, 3.34) will toe the rubber against Rainiers righty Jeff Marquez (2-2, 5.87) in the first game of the series.
The Isotopes begin an eight-game road trip tomorrow with four games against the Tacoma Rainiers, Triple-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners, and a series against the Salt Lake Bees, Triple-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels. The team will return home on May 17 for a 12-game homestand, the longest such stretch of the 2012 season that includes the Celebrity Softball Game, Bark in the Park, fireworks and a bobblehead giveaway. Tickets for any Isotopes game may be purchased at the Isotopes Park Box Office, at Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 1-800-745-3000, or on-line at www.abqisotopes.com or www.ticketmaster.com .
