Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
PAPILLION, Neb. - The Storm Chasers finished off their short four-game homestand with an 8-4 victory over the Oklahoma City RedHawks on Monday afternoon. Seven Chasers contributed with a hit in Monday's victory.
In addition to Lough's slam, catcher Cody Clark had a strong performance at the plate, as he slashed three hits in three at-bats. Starter Everett Teaford (1-0) was credited with the victory after working through 5.1 innings and giving up two runs.
The RedHawks (17-15) tallied the game's first run in the top of the second. Things picked up offensively for Omaha (22-10) in the bottom of the third when third baseman Kurt Mertins singled to lead off the inning and then advanced to third on an errant pickoff throw from the pitcher. Terry Evans then singled to bring in Mertins and tie the game at 1-1. Back-to-back singles by Clark and Derrick Robinson plated another run. Johnny Giavotella worked a walk to load the bases with Storm Chasers and set Lough up for his grand slam that put Omaha ahead, 6-1.
With the momentum clearly on the side of the Chasers, the fans at Werner Park cheered on two more runs in the fourth when Evans and Giavotella each added RBI doubles to extend the Storm Chasers lead to 8-1.
Oklahoma City scratched out another run in the sixth and pushed two more across in the seventh off of reliever Ethan Hollingsworth to come within four of Omaha at 8-4. Manager Mike Jirschele summoned Louis Coleman out of the bullpen and was rewarded handsomely as Coleman worked two scoreless innings while punching out five to preserve the Storm Chasers 8-4 victory.
Omaha will now hit the road for an eight-game roadtrip against Sacramento and Fresno. Tuesday's game against the Sacramento River Cats starts at 9:05 p.m. and can be heard locally on AM 1180 and online at omahastormchasers.com.
