
Drive Race Past Shorebirds 9-4 to Level Series

Salisbury, Md. - The Greenville Drive (8-11) scored seven unanswered runs between the third and eighth innings to defeat the Delmarva Shorebirds (10-9), 9-4 on Wednesday afternoon at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. Five of the first six runs scored by the Drive were unearned due to errors by the Shorebirds.
The Drive took an early lead in the second. Keury De La Cruz hit a two out double. Then, Nick Natoli hit a high fly ball that was misplayed on the warning track by Glynn Davis, allowing De La Cruz to score. Jordan Weems followed with a single to right to give the Drive a 2-0 edge.
The Shorebirds responded quickly in the bottom of the second. Nicky Delmonico drew a one out walk. Then, Adam Davis singled through the left side of the infield. After a double steal, Sammie Starr hit a two-run single into right field to tie the game at 2-2.
The Drive proceeded to score seven unanswered runs over the next six innings while the Shorebirds went scoreless between the third and eighth innings.
Greenville tallied a run in the third, two runs in the fourth and three runs in the seventh. Cody Koback hit a two-run triple in the fourth and David Renfroe hit a two-run homer in the seventh.
The Shorebirds scored two runs in the ninth on a double down the left field line by John Ruettiger, who had three hits.
Shorebirds starter Tim Berry was pinned with the loss over 3.2 innings pitched. He surrendered six runs, just one of which was earned. Berry fanned six and walked three.
Matt Taylor lasted 2.1 innings in relief and allowed five hits and two runs. Trent Howard replaced Taylor in the seventh and pitched the final three innings. Howard gave up just two hits and one run.
The Shorebirds went 3-for-13 with runners in scoring position and left ten runners on base.
Game three of the series is scheduled for Thursday night at 7:05pm. RHP Parker Bridwell is the scheduled starter.
