Extra Inning Hit Lifts Greenville

Rome, GA -The Greenville Drive defeated the Rome Braves 4-3 Thursday night in front of 3,392 fans at State Mutual Stadium. This was Rome's second consecutive loss to Greenville.

Both teams were held scoreless tonight until the top of the third inning when Brandon Jacobs' RBI single plated Heiker Meneses to give the Drive a 1-0 advantage. Rome answered in the bottom of the inning when Edward Salcedo reached on a hit by pitch and was driven home on a double off the bat of Chris Garcia to tie the game 1-1.

Rome would strike again in the home half of the fourth on an RBI single by shortstop Matt Lipka giving the Braves a 2-1 lead. The Drive would tie the game in the top of the fifth thanks to two stolen bases by Felix Sanchez and a throwing error by catcher Christian Bethancourt. Josue Peley would later give the Drive a 3-2 lead in the top of the seventh on a sacrifice fly scoring David Renfroe. Rome would again tie the game when their turn came in the seventh with some two out magic as Salcedo would double and score Bethancourt for the 3-3 score.

The game would go into extra innings and Greenville would break the tie in the tenth on an RBI single by Meneses. Rome would go quietly in the bottom half of the inning losing the game 4-3.

Chris Martin (3-0) would earn the win for Greenville while Kyle Mertins (1-2) takes the loss for Rome.
