Six-Run Seventh Burns Drive Versus Tourists, 8-6

Greenville Drive News Release

Greenville, SC - Less than 24 hours after the Drive (12-12) used a late rally for a thrilling come-from-behind victory at Fluor Field, the visiting Asheville Tourists wanted to make sure the home team experienced the same bad taste in their mouths. With Greenville holding onto a three run advantage, the Tourists scored six runs with two outs in the top of the seventh en route to an 8-6 win.

Former Clemson football and baseball standout, Kyle Parker, provided the crushing blow with the score knotted at 5-5. The Rockies' 2010 first round draft pick (26th overall) sent a 1-2 offering from Hunter Cervenka (0-1) off the video board in deep right-centerfield.

The Tourists staked the game's first run in the top of the third, but the Drive quickly responded in the home half of the inning. The day before his 20th birthday, first baseman Miles Head blasted his first of two homers in the game, to put Greenville on top, 2-1.

However, Asheville tied the game in the top of the fourth as they pulled off a double steal that allowed Corey Dickerson to cross home. But the Drive answered again, scoring a run in the bottom of the fourth, and added two more in the fifth as Head smacked his second round tripper - this time a laser over the Green Monster.

Exiting after 5.0 strong innings, it appeared as if Workman would pick-up the first win of his young professional career. The right-hander allowed a pair of runs on four hits and a walk, while striking out four. Workman held the potent Tourists offense hitless until Russell Wilson led off the top of the third with a single.

But after a perfect sixth inning by Cervenka, in which he struckout two, things came undone at the seams an inning later. The lefty retired the first two batters he faced before allowing the six batters to reach base safely, including five consecutive hits. Bryce Massanari's single tied the game right before Parker's blast.

Greenville added a run in the bottom of the seventh on a wild pitch, and had a chance to pull within a run in the eight, but David Renfroe was gunned down at home by centerfielder Rafael Ortega.

The heavyweight fight between the Drive and Tourists continues Monday evening at Fluor Field, with first pitch set for 7:05 PM. Right-hander Miguel Celestino (1-1, 4.91 ERA) toes the rubber for Greenville, while Asheville counters with right-hander Ricardo Ferrer (0-1, 6.38 ERA).
