Eighth-Inning Run Costs Sens in New Hampshire

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats scored the final three runs of the game, including the decisive run in the bottom of the eighth, and defeated the Harrisburg Senators 3-2 on Thursday evening at Merchantsauto.com Stadium.  The loss dropped the Senators to 73-64 on the season, with their playoff standing pending the result of the Altoona-Bowie contest on Thursday night at Bowie.  A Baysox loss would keep the Senators a half-game in front in the playoff race; a Baysox win would give Bowie a half-game lead.  New Hampshire, for its part, improved to 79-58 with the win over the Sens.

The Senators jumped out to a 2-0 lead on the Fisher Cats with single runs in the first and second inning, but did not score again the rest of the game.  The run in the first came on a two-out, solo home run by Stephen Lombardozzi, while the run in the second came on a leadoff solo shot by Michael Burgess.  Lombardozzi's home run was his fourth of the season; for Burgess, it was his third.  Both runs came against Kyle Drabek, who went just three innings as the New Hampshire starter.

Aaron Thompson, the starter for the Sens, threw five and a third innings and allowed two runs, with one coming in the second and one in the sixth.  Luis Sanchez drove home Jonathan Jaspe with an RBI single in the second inning, and Ricardo Nanita drove in Adam Loewen from first base with a double in the sixth.  Nanita's double tied the game, and Thompson exited one batter later.  The winning run came two innings later, off of Sens reliever Victor Garate, on a double by Callix Crabbe.  It scored Jaspe, who had walked with one out.  Garate (0-1) took the loss for the Sens, while Danny Farquhar (4-3) pitched the final two innings for New Hampshire and got the win.  The Sens had five hits on the ballgame, with only three players recording a hit.  Burgess and Chris Marrero each had two, while Lombardozzi had one.

The loss completes a three games to one series loss for the Sens, and sends them to Binghamton for the final series of the regular season.  The Sens have five games against the B-Mets from Friday through Monday, starting with a doubleheader on Friday evening that begins at 5:35 PM.  Left-hander Tom Milone (11-5, 2.92) goes in game one of the doubleheader, against LHP Mark Cohoon (5-3, 4.36) of Binghamton.  In game two, it's RHP Adrian Alaniz (0-0, 3.00) for the Senators; Binghamton's game two starter is as yet undetermined.  Fans can hear all the action, in both games, beginning at 5:20 PM on 1460 AM The Ticket and www.senatorsbaseball.com.
