New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Callix Crabbe brought home the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth to lift the Fisher Cats to a 3-2 win over the Harrisburg Senators in front of 5,712 during the home finale Thursday at Merchantsauto.com Stadium. New Hampshire used four pitchers on the night and held Harrisburg scoreless through the final seven innings to preserve the victory.
Crabbe's double to deep left-center field plated Jonathan Jaspe, who reached on a one-out walk and was waived around from first to score.
Danny Farquhar (4-3) retired the side in order in the eighth and shutout the Senators in the ninth with a 6-4-3 double play to end the game and record the win.
New Hampshire (79-58) finished the year with a 39-32 record at home after taking three of four from the Senators. The Fisher Cats also concluded the season series with Harrisburg, winning eight of 10 meetings with the final four games being decided by a single run.
The Senators (73-64) took a 2-0 lead on a pair of home runs in the first two innings. Steve Lombardozzi went over the right field fence on a 1-0 pitch to score the game's initial run with two outs in the first. Michael Burgess then led off the top of the second with a solo shot to center on a 2-0 offering.
New Hampshire chipped away at the deficit in the bottom of the second to bring it to a 2-1 game. Jaspe (2 for 2) doubled to lead off the frame, moved to third on a Crabbe(2 for 4)bunt single and came home on a Luis Sanchez sacrifice fly to shallow center field.
Eastern League Pitcher of the Year Kyle Drabek made his last start before the playoffs, going only three innings, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out five and walking one. Drabek received the no-decision, but will lead the Eastern League with 14 wins at the end of the season.
Dumas Garcia came out of the bullpen for the Fisher Cats, and held Harrisburg scoreless through three innings of work. Garcia let up four walks, but only allowed one hit while striking out one.
The Fisher Cats clawed all the way back in the top of the sixth to tie the game at two apiece. Adam Loewen drew a one-out walk and came all the way around to score on a Ricardo Nanita double high off the center field wall. Nanita, who was picked up as a free agent from the Mexican League, has now driven in a run in each of his first two games with the Fisher Cats.
Boomer Potts also came out of the bullpen and delivered an inning of scoreless relief by whiffing one batter in the seventh.
The Fisher Cats head to Portland on Friday to open the final series of the regular season. New Hampshire right-hander Zach Stewart (8-3) will be opposed by Portland starter Kyle Weiland (5-9). Fisher Cats Pre Game begins at 6:40 p.m. on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network with Bob Lipman.
The playoffs open on Wednesday, September 8. Guarantee your seat to the 2011 Northeast Delta Dental All-Star Game by purchasing 2011 Season Tickets. Visit www.nhfishercats.com or call (603) 641-2005 for details.
