
Thunder Announce Pitcher of the Year and Plumeri Community Service Award Winners

(TRENTON, NJ) The Trenton Thunder, Double-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, announced today that Relief Pitcher Josh Schmidt has been named the winner of the Smith's ACE Hardware Pitcher of the Year award and that Catcher Ryan Baker has been named the 2010 Samuel Plumeri, Sr. Community Service Award Winner. They were presented the awards in an on-field ceremony prior to the game against Akron on Thursday evening at Mercer County Waterfront Park.
The Smith's ACE Hardware Pitcher of the Year award, which is new this year, was voted on by the fans during the final month of the season. This year's winner, Josh Schmidt, has a 3-3 record with a 2.86 ERA in 45 appearances out of the Thunder bullpen. The two-time Eastern League All-Star has 66 strikeouts and 28 walks in 56.2 innings pitched.
Community Service Award winner Ryan Baker has been a frequent participant in activities for Trenton Thunder Charities. He helped coach at Thunder youth clinics and camps and has been a regular volunteer for community outreach opportunities around the ballpark.
Baker joins Brad Tweedlie (1999), Marty McLeary (2000), Josh Garrett (2001), Mike Griffin (2002), Brian Myrow (2003), Jason Grove (2004), Ben Julianel (2005), Jason Brown (2006), Jason Jones (2007), Joe Muich (2008), and Noah Hall (2009) as winners of the Sam Plumeri Sr. Community Service Award.
The Samuel Plumeri Sr. Community Service Award winner is chosen by Thunder Management while the Smith's ACE Hardware Pitcher of the Year award winner is chosen by fan voting at the AAA Guest Services Center at Waterfront Park.
