
Chiefs Fall 4-2 Sunday

Clinton, IA - The Peoria Chiefs left 11 runners on base and fell to the Clinton LumberKings 4-2 Sunday afternoon to end a six-game road winning streak. The loss drops the Chiefs to 25-26 on the half and 63-57 overall. Peoria is three games behind Clinton for the top playoff spot in the second half and 2 games behind wild card leading Kane County.
Starter Robinson Lopez, newly acquired in the Derrek Lee trade with Atlanta, stranded two LumberKings in the first inning and the Chiefs jumped out on top in the second. Justin Bour led off with a double, his 25th of the season, and Jae-Hoon Ha reached on an infield single. With two outs, Luis Flores put the Chiefs on the board with a single to left though Ha was thrown out at third on the play to end the inning.
Lopez walked four through two innings and left with a 1-0 lead. Manolin DeLeon threw a perfect third before running into trouble in the fourth. DeLeon walked two of the first three batters he faced and then gave up a single to load the bases. With two outs he walked Nick Franklin to force in a run and tie the game 1-1. Mickey Wiswall put the LumberKings on top 3-1 with a single to left before DeLeon escaped the inning.
Both teams wasted chanced in the middle innings before the Chiefs rallied against Fray Martinez in the seventh. With one out Hak-Ju Lee doubled to left and moved to third on an infield single by Logan Watkins. Lefty Jose Jimenez relieved Martinez and Matt Cerda singled home Lee to cut the Chiefs deficit to 3-2. Bour flew out to center and Ha drew a walk to load the bases. With the go-ahead run at second and the tying run on third, Nelson Perez struck out swinging to end the threat.
Clinton doubled their lead in the bottom of the seventh as Blake Ochoa led off with a homer off Corey Martin. Down 4-2 the Chiefs got just one base runner over the final two innings and did not threaten against closer Brandon Josselyn who earned his 15th save.
Lopez allowed one hit and walked four over two shutout innings while striking out two. DeLeon (1-1) allowed three runs on two hits and three walks while striking out one over two innings. Martin allowed one run on five hits while striking out four over three innings of work. Backup catcher Jose Guevara threw a 1-2-3 eighth inning as the Chiefs were out of pitchers.
Casey's General Store Player of the Game - Luis Flores (C) - The Chiefs catcher went 1-for-3 with a walk and his 16th RBI of the season in the Chiefs loss.
