Quad Cities River Bandits News Release
GENEVA, Ill. - The Quad Cities River Bandits took a 1-0 lead in the first but the Cougars return fired with a run in the third to tie the game at one a piece. The Bandits added two in the late innings which proved to be enough for the win despite Kane County plating one in the ninth. The Bandits took the match-up 3-2 and have won the first two of four games in their series with the Cougars.
Quad Cities' starter Shelby Miller threw just four innings for the Bandits in the victory. Miller allowed one run on two hits while walking three and fanning six without recording a decision. Bandits' reliever Christopher Corrigan (2-0) threw three scoreless innings to pick up his second Midwest League win this season. He struck out three. Justin Smith pitched a perfect eighth inning and punched out two with Aaron Terry to follow for the ninth. Despite surrendering a run, Terry (15) was able to chalk up his 15th save of the season.
Matt Adams sparked the Bandits offense by going 3-for-4, including his league leading 21st home run of the season in the eighth inning. The homer proved to be important as it provided the winning run when Kane County plated one in the bottom of the ninth. Adams also added a pair of RBI to his league lead, he now has 86. Luis Mateo went 2-for-4 with a run scored when Freddy Parejo drew a bases loaded walk in the sixth inning.
Murphy Smith (7-2) was charged with his second loss of the season after he was touched for two runs on five hits through five innings of work. Smith walked three and struck out two in the loss.
The Bandits and Cougars continue their four-game set on Monday night when the Bandits send right-hander Michael Blazek (7-3) to the hill to face off with fellow righty Jonathan Joseph (1-5). Game time is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Philip B. Elfstrom Stadium in Geneva, Illinois.
